DJI, a global leader in drone, gimbal and camera tech, has launched its latest innovation in the Australian market: the DJI SDR transmission system. This new video transmission system aims to make advanced software-defined radio (SDR) technology more accessible, particularly for small and medium-sized film crews.

DJI SDR Transmission System

The new DJI SDR Transmission system is designed to offer enhanced stability and strong interference resistance. It boasts robust penetration capabilities, ensuring that video feeds remain stable even in complex shooting environments.

Filmmakers can expect high-quality 1080p/60fps live feeds with a bitrate of up to 20Mbps and a delay as low as 35 milliseconds, transmitted up to 3 kilometers away. The system can also hop across 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and DFS frequency bands to find the most optimal channel when faced with interference.

Flexible Monitoring Options

Designed for versatile use, the DJI SDR Transmission can output three SDR signals and two Wi-Fi signals simultaneously. In broadcast mode, it can connect to unlimited receivers, providing a high-quality monitoring experience for multiple collaborators on set.

The system supports connections to monitors via SDI/HDMI and to smartphones and tablets via USB-C or Wi-Fi, offering a cost-effective dual-channel monitoring experience without the need for additional receivers.

Remote camera controls

When used with DJI RS series stabilisers, the DJI SDR Transmission supports a range of remote camera control features. Filmmakers can use Force Mobile, virtual joystick, and gimbal recentering functions.

The system also allows for PTP control, enabling users to adjust aperture, shutter, ISO, and trigger photo-taking and video-recording functions through the app. It even supports CEC control for Sony cameras, enabling Mirror Control mode.

Seamless workflow integration

The DJI SDR Transmission system can transmit metadata, facilitating efficient collaboration during filming. When connected to the DJI Ronin app in Broadcast mode, users can easily switch between camera indexes.

The system is compatible with mainstream cinema cameras like ARRI and RED via SDI, providing real-time access to detailed shooting information for directors, cinematographers, and DIT teams.

Versatile power supply and portability

The system uses a standard PD protocol charger with a USB-C power input and can be powered directly by DJI RS 4 Pro, DJI RS 4, or DJI RS 3 Pro when mounted together.

The transmitter and receiver also support industry-standard NP-F batteries, eliminating the need for separate power sources. Weighing only 145g each, the compact and lightweight design ensures easy portability.

Pricing and availability

The DJI SDR Transmission system and its accessories are available for purchase at DJI Stores, DJI Authorised Retailers, and online at the D1 Store from July 17 at 11pm AEST. The pricing is as follows:
