Last week DroneDJ broke the news of the DJI Mavic Air 2 being confirmed along with its controller thanks to FCC reports uploaded and made public on the FCC’s database. Once thought to be named the DJI Mavic, we now know its, in fact, the DJI Mavic Air 2.
Mavic Air 2 boasts a bigger battery, re-design, and no upward-facing sensors
The DJI Mavic Air 2 will be the next drone to come out in the Mavic line and replacing the original DJI Mavic Air. The Mavic Air 2 was once thought to be named the Mavic, but due to the information on the FCC’s database, we now know the new drone will be named the DJI Mavic Air 2.
DJI Mavic Air 2
The DJI Mavic Air 2’s FCC label was first shared online showing us that the new Mavic Air drone will come with a 3500mAh battery, an increase of 1,125mAh from the original Mavic Air’s 2375mAh. The Mavic Air 2 is likely to include DJI’s OcuSync 2.0 technology and a few of the features found on the Mavic 2 series, including, the downward-facing light, obstacle avoidance sensors on more than just the front.
As this will be DJI’s first drone to come out in 2020, it will almost certainly include an ADS-B sensor to improve flight safety. The ADS-B sensor will allow manned aircraft and other drones to know when they are near to one another and sending a notification to your phone.
Controller
The new controller brings along a brand new design forgoing the phone mount at the bottom of the controller for a new simpler looking phone mount. The controller also comes with a beefy heatsink possibly to keep the OcuSync 2.0 internals cool while flying. The image also shows the controller will not include an in-built display but will rather keep a three-way flight mode switch, power button, and a return-to-home button.
